English: Sound Discrimination

Term 1
Unit 1:
Words begin with the sounds /b/, /f/, /y/, /fr/ and /sh/

Unit 2:
Words begin with the sounds /c/, /d/, /p/, /t/ and /w/

Unit 3:
Words begin with the sounds /br/, /tr/, /fl/ and /cr/

Unit 4:
Words begin with the sounds  /b/, /f/, /y/, /fr/, /sh/, /m/, /r/, /z/, /cr/, /st/

Unit 5:
Initial consonant: the beginning sound /l/

Unit 6:
Words begin with the sounds /v/, /bl/

Unit 7:
Words begin with the sounds /j/, /fl/, /sm/, /sk/

Term 2
Unit 8:
Initial consonant: g /j/ sound as in giant, genius
/ow/ as in Ow!
vowels: /ee/ as in bees

Unit 9:
Initial consonants: wh as /h/
vowel: /oy/ as in toys

Unit 10:
Initial consonants: /n/
vowels: ee
i as in hive, fine

Unit 11:
initial consonants: /st/
vowels: ice, ate, no

Unit 12:
Words begin with the sounds /gr/, /dr/, /cr/

Unit 13:
Consonant blends: cl, sw

Unit 14:
Letter sounds: /sl, /qu/, ...sh,
sl in slowly, qu in queen, sh in hush

Term 3
Unit 15:
vowel sound: ou as in shout
word families: -ight (right), -ack (back)

Unit 16:
word families: -ight
Vowel sound: -oy

Unit 17:
Initial consonant: /k/ as in key, kite, cake, cat, etc.

Unit 18:
initial consonant: br as in [brother], cr as in [cry], gr as in [grandpa]

Unit 19:
letter sounds: /scr/
words ending in -tch

Term 4

Vowels: seed, sweet, meat

Unit 21:
Blend: /sw/ as in sway
Word ending: - er

Unit 22:

vowels: ee in feet
word parts: -aw (s) as in claws
